Elevator Pitch: In the present day, while humans enjoying themselves at a convention, they are interrupted by a portal opening in the middle of the event with anthropomorphic raccoons. They are at war with anthropomorphic penguins. They need the human race to fight alongside them if they stand a chance at winning the war. If they lose, the human race would be wiped from existence on the face of the earth.
Players assume the role of Joel Parker, a fifteen-year-old boy selected to be drafted who discovers a secret behind the war which causes him to find a way to end the war with both the raccoons and penguins declaring peace to one another all the while having to fight a stronger and crueler threat.
Setting and History: The world is set on the planet of Calypso. It is a breathable habitat for humans, raccoons, and penguins. The penguins had destroyed the raccoons' homes ten years ago, leaving a number of them dead and the survivors in forming a resistance group known as the Underdogs to fight back.
As the story progresses, the player learns that some of the raccoons started the war, to begin with by killing the penguins' queen in a terrorist attack that left her and many others dead, which forced the king to retaliate by destroying the raccoon's homes. There are two main areas and three factions.
Frostbite: The home of the penguins and their king. It is a bustling city, filled with advanced technology far exceeding that of humans. Penguins are free to waddle on and make friends. They are allowed free speech and free will but are subjected to surveillance and are given harsh punishments for breaking the law, with the worse being a death sentence. It is also the home of Legion, the main army the king controls filled with the strongest soldiers throughout the city.
Notable areas include:
- The Cloudcrest Hospital: Where the player is recovering from his wounds after being betrayed by the Underdogs.
- The Whitecliff Castle: Home of the king of the penguins, along with his four children.
- The Iceflame Orphanage: An orphanage where the king was raised as a young fledgling.
The Underground: The raccoons' new home after losing their old home to the penguins' attack. As the name suggests, they hide out deep in the woods to avoid detection by the penguins.
Notable Areas: Since they lost their home of Woodgrove, they settled living in the Redwood Forest, a seemingly endless forest that without navigation, can leave explorers trapped forever.
Earth: The home of the human race. Many of the populace are ordinary civilians selected to fight with basic training and combat experience taught by professionals. They are all shapes or sizes; whether big or small and young or old.
Notable Areas Include:
- The Player's home.
- Los Angeles: The city Joel was born and raised in. One of the most popular cities in California, it is the home of Hollywood and its movie studios and has attracted many visitors every year.
Characters
Joel Parker: A fifteen-year-old boy who's bored with his mundane life as a janitor for a hotel and an aspiring actor. However, because he tends to forget his lines makes it harder for him to find a career. He is drafted to mainly serve as a volunteer but is later promoted to soldier for saving the life of his comrade. He has great wits and can think quickly on his feet, but is inexperienced in combat and dangerously obsessed with his past which caused his former friends to alienate him.
Rosemary Olsen: Joel's nineteen-year-old former stepsister and friend. Joel saved her life by jumping off a bridge in suicide. But after Joel saves her, she has to put up with Joel's obsession with exposing Genesis' crimes which causes her to leave him. She is introverted and seemingly quiet on the outside but is amiable and concerned for others on the inside. She serves as the medic, caring for others and herself.
Garrus: The first prince of the current ruler of Frostbite. He is unsure of his life as ruler as he is aware of his father's actions and what they had to the raccoon race. Despite this, he does care for his father and does not want him dead or gone, as he lost his mother at a young age. He serves as the shooter, knowing how to handle guns as if they are pushovers.
Lianna: Garrus's lover. A raccoon girl whom the king reluctantly adopted after her sister left her on the streets after an argument. She is what gives the king character development, as she is not like the other raccoons whom the penguin public describes. She can cast magic, mainly psychic, but not the same kind of magic as the other raccoons, which are cosmic.
Saren: Garrus's father and the current ruler of Frostbite. After losing his wife years ago, he has become somewhat of a cold recluse, distrusting the raccoons and sending them to harsh punishment. He is also distrustful of Joel when he meets him but slowly warms up to him after Joel sees through his pain. A heavily skilled combatant, he is not afraid to fight with his strength and fitness.
Brian Mills: The main antagonist. He desires to reshape the world as he sees fit. Believing it to have gotten corrupt thanks to the government, he seeks to overthrow it once and for all.
Pine: The secondary antagonist. A raccoon who seeks to destroy the penguins by using tactics even worst than what Legion is doing. He believes that the penguins started the war to begin with, and seeks to retaliate against that by fighting through force in return.
Other characters include:
Kira: Garrus's twin sister, an extrovert turned introvert who's also skilled when it comes to technology and machines but is currently coping with the death of her boyfriend from the war. She serves as the team's engineer.
Vera: Garrus's older sister, who serves as the main general of Legion. She is serious and level-headed, but also close to her family, serving as the player's support, boosting attack or defense power, and can call multiple soldiers to aid them on the battlefield.
Lucien: Garrus's younger brother, who is oblivious and naive about the war.
Phantom: Saren's bodyguard who lost his son in the war and remains distrustful of Joel.
Tulip: Lianna's older sister, who feels guilt from abandoning her younger sibling to be captured, she used to be the Underdog's leader before being disgraced. Unlike Pine, she prefers a peaceful solution rather than control.
Amber: Rose's younger sister, who prefers to be oblivious about the world.
Doug: Joel's father, a police officer who doesn't believe his son about Genesis, but eventually does care about him and eventually helps defeat the organization.
Miriam: A mysterious penguin who has connections with Saren.
Items of significance
-
Frostbite: The army of Legion is what keeps the city standing. They are armed with the most advanced weaponry they could muster and have highly trained generals to train their combatants. Many of them wield guns but have highly advanced detection scopes mounted on their rifles to spot potential suspected terrorist members. They also use combat drones and robots with scanners to detect threats armed with missiles to strike them without question. If raccoons are caught, they are subjected to the torture of being muzzled to prevent them from casting magic and are sentenced to slavery for life.
-
The Underground: Some raccoons can cast cosmic magic with its use being to teleport humans from Earth to Calypso and back. When it is used in combat, it can be more deadly than technology but at the cost of tiring out the caster. Raccoons that cannot cast magic rely on weapons provided by the human race, with training from the humans, with a combination of using guerilla tactics, which is the reason why they held out for so many years.
-
Genesis: Genesis is an organization located in Los Angeles. Joel does not agree with Genesis's views on using force and order instead of peace and free will. They believe that the world has gone corrupt and that only members of their organization are pure. They seek to unite the public by exposing "crimes" committed by the Capital.
Plotline:
Players assume the role of Joel, who is betrayed by the Underground and wants revenge against them, but Garrus and Lianna want to seek peace between Legion and the Underground to stop the fighting. They discuss this with Saren, who begins to see Joel as not a threat but an ally. Meanwhile, Genesis begins to form from a combined force of humans, raccoons, and penguins and seeks to overthrow all races. Joel, Garrus, Lianna, and Rose must form together to end the war once and for all. All the while Joel must choose whether to spare his enemies or kill them to prevent a further threat.
Players would interact with NPCs including the characters I mentioned above who would give missions for them to complete. They can either play lethal or non-lethal on certain enemies that can affect Joel's behavior, as over time, he begins to enjoy killing which will affect the ending of how Joel deals with Brian. He can either spare him to be arrested or killed extremely brutally but Joel has to live his life forever on the run from remaining Genesis members for revenge.
