@SwampCreature I went to a small tech/gaming convention back in 2016 because a friend of mine was competing in a live League of Legends tournament. It was a lot of fun, and I got to have my only experience with VR to this day, but I really hope to see something of the scale of a SDCC or NYCC.

@SwampCreature The one with the dog... that's part of the Clocktower series, I think? Unless you're referring to Rule of Rose.

SIlent Hill 2 is legendary and for good reason. I got my start with that series with that one. It holds a dread ambiance like nothing else.

If you like Fatal Frame, have you tried the DreadOut series? They're somewhat similar as I understand. I like DreadOut, but it's not balanced as well as it could be with some of the bosses.

The most recent horror type game I've played is Withering Rooms. It's a survival title in a haunted mansion and while it has some Clock Tower elements, it's more of a focus on being a rogue-like style these days. It's not intensely scary or anything, but there's some good monster designs.

Honestly, I can't think of any pure horror titles that have clicked for me in a while. I couldn't get into Amnesia and while FNAF is good for jump scares and dread, I never liked the controls, so I would just watch YT'ers play it.

Come to think of it, the last really scary thing I played was the Silent Hill mod for Fallout 4. Coupled with a few other mods for fog and such, that was a genuinely nerve-wracking experience. Just trying to survive nights and having a real reason to be hyper-cautious in houses and streets (compared to the base game) truly brought out a terrifying style of gameplay.

@SwampCreature Last game I've played is Maplestory. I think I'd do well in the first three episodes of this isekai because I've played the lv. 1-30 areas for thousands of hours; but I would immediately do horribly in the rest of the game. Curse my lack of attention span and discipline, why did I have to keep making new characters? 😭

@SwampCreature I would bring back 2009 Maplestory. The game still exists but they made a lot of changes that made the game less enjoyable to me. There's a lot of private servers running the old version, but if we can remake it and make it look nicer, it will also be easier for me to convince friends and loved ones to play with me.

@SwampCreature Nintendo is the GOAT of OSTs in my opinion: particularly Pokemon stands out to me, but LoZ and Mario have a lot of bangers. Other than that, I was obsessed with the Last of Us OST when the game came out; and lately I've been listening to the music in Ooblets to work to.

I wanted a little chibi Clamp-style wing on my right shoulder when I was younger, a little homage to my love of anime and also the one-winged angel himself, Sephiroth. I'm not sure I'll ever end up getting it now, and like with most things, now that I'm trying to think of something else I would get, my brain has gone blank 😂ccs.jpg

I know he's not technically dead dead, but The Doctor is probably the one I still think about and struggle with. Specifically the 10th Doctor. Too much of Tennant's performance was just an emotional whirlwind to begin with, so naturally his "passing" left a huge impact on the fans.

@SwampCreature Honestly it came from reading more. Like at first all I could do was make cool characters. But I never liked bland fiction that takes place in "our" world so I kept building. It really is a world 10 years in the making lol. I just need the time to write, and ideally, to not feel so stressed as that doesn't help for shit lol

Hard to answer, mainly because when you review games for beer money, you're going to be playing a lot of bad games.

Death To Spies - An early review title. It was supposed to be a sort of WWII-era Soviet-themed Splinter Cell sort of affair. It was painfully bad. Shoddy controls, lousy character movement, just godawful all around.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster - Don't imagine a "Lifetime Original Movie" made into a video game. Imagine a "Lifetime Original Movie" that somebody screwed up trying to make into a video game. This particular "walking simulator" wanted to deliver a psychological thriller with "a very important message," and it totally dropped the ball.

Empyre: Dukes of The Far Frontier - A terrible steampunk sequel to a terrible steampunk game. It was so buggy, I was physically unable to reach the end of it.

      @SwampCreature

I am obsessed with Solid Snake's herculean odyssey, his machismo archetype, and his ability to become the avatar of the audience that plays him. His rise and fall. His naivety to betrayal lends itself so perfectly to an audience coming into the story for the first time.

His ability to nod the fourth wall that controls his steps without accepting it. He follows orders with suspended disbelief in what is real and what are the psychological horrors of the battlefield He follows his own ideas with a certain cognitive dissonance to both the plot AND the concept of being inside a PlayStation. The way he gets distracted by childish things (as an aside to the equally bored and overwhelmed viewer) whenever something important is revealed in great detail.

He is a perfect vessel for the player... A film will never be able to capture the magic of Snake as a video game character. I could go on.

Also, I love Senua from Hellblade.
I love the concept of being schizophrenic/ mentally ill in ancient religious times. Fighting off shadows in the forest. Finding meaning in random shapes and colors. Stricken by grief of lost loved one. All to the tune of ancient pantheons. Her acting and mocap were amazing. Her performance was incredible and the character as a game concept was peak 2010's.

And the Narrator in Darkest Dungeon. His anguish for his sins. His desire for more. A lot of twists and turns. A memorable performance!

I'm late to this, but I also love dice with tiny things inside. I'm always seeing unique dice sets come up on IG; I've recently seen some cool nature-y ones. I also like glow-in-the-dark, glitter, or hollow core ones filled with colored water. I think my perfect set would depend on my character and the game I was currently playing. In my current game, I think I'd love some transparent dice flecked with gold, with small leaves and vines swirled within (or carved into them), with a little deer inside, representing my character. 🦌

@SwampCreature I still like the first Silent Hill movie. While the plot wasn't quite spot on, I felt it captured the ambiance and feel nicely.

There's always GURPS Autoduel to start the car rolling.

Indeed? I've not heard of that particular GURPS before. I might have to grab a copy for some ideas. Thank you.

my warforged didn't know how to swim, but i bravely tied a 50' rope to the ship and jumped overboard to fight the Kraken, announcing to pull me up when the job was done. Warfoged don't need to breathe, so drowning wasn't an issue.

the fight was over, and players started discussing next steps.

I silently crossed my arms and closed my eyes, and blew up my cheeks like i was holding my breath, leaning back in my seat. I stayed there for what felt like 10 minutes of players discussing their plans. 3 days pass in game. I started putting candy wrappers on my face as if seaweed was accumulating.

By the time they noticed I had been very quiet, the barbarian looks over at me and was like... "what is Kaj doing?" Then he goes "OH MY GOD we never pulled him back up!".

And then everyone cheered and clapped and hoisted me in the air singing songs of my glory. okay that last part wasn't real, but we all had a good laugh.
