What do we do when we encounter something we never thought possible? How do we heal when nothing makes sense anymore and our differences seem insurmountable? While Vaf used to be a growing kingdom with rich agriculture system and a stabile monarchy, it was separated from it's world and developed on a completely different path. When it's thrown back into the world of it's birth, nothing seems to fit the way it used to.
For the world of Trebideu, nothing has been the same since the vanishing. Fifty years ago, the lands of Vaf disappeared. Acres of agricultural land and forests, multiple towns, and the whole city of Yunish. In their wake, there was only a crater and the lands surrounding the gap have become wasteland in the years since. The fear from this event resulted in the surrounding lands of Kemog, Alef, and Ramseden closing their borders and starting a cold war. Spies, assassins, and politicians have entirely new career paths now. For others- baffled, scared, and hungry due to supply chain problems, they've done the best they can and turned to the ideologies that help them feel a little safer in a world that is nothing like the one they grew up in.
Yet now, with no warning, Vaf has reapperared. For them, it hasn't been several decades, it's been centuries. In this place we knew as Vaf, magic has been developed in strange and otherworldly ways. It works with nature to grow buildings and flowers can be used to send messages. The technology is beyond anything we've seen. Residents zip around in flying machines and work at jobs none have imagined. And the people, well, they've changed too. Vaf used to be a monarchy, but the royal house is no where to be seen. Actually, it's difficult to find any figure head that resprents Vaf now. When asked what you need, you're directed to a different person depending on your answer. It seems to that not one family runs Vaf now, but all of them do?
With this turn of events, the world had yet again been turned upside down. For King Epsidon of Alef and Queen Varnica of Kemog, it adds a new intensity to their cold war. They send spies into Vaf to see if the returned neighbor is a threat and to find powers that might help them end this neverending cold war. Masha Sucuivix, a weaver from Vaf, grew up on stories from her great -great-Grandfather who left his town and his wife in Ramseden to sell his wares in the great city of Yunish, only to leave all of that behind when Vaf was separated from his world. Now Masha, on her quest to discover her heritage, finds that his wife is still very much alive and still very much angry at her husband for disappearing. Butenkrig, the scientist, lost his honorific "the Wise" when he predicted that our world was colliding with another and there would be consequences. When Vaf vanished and his theories seemed to come true, he died on the spot in shock. His apprentice, Crayon Wedgefeild, is now on a quest to understand what his mentor never had a chance to, what happened to Vaf when it disappeared. In his journey into the replaced lands, he discovers that not only has time passed more quickly there, but everything about the land- the people, the flora, the fauna, and the magic, has shifted when it interacted with the world beyond.
