Hello Hello!
My name is Katie and I’m the Senior Art Director for LiveTale. I’ll start by covering where we are and our thoughts as we try to make the most immersive and meaningful role-play experience possible. Getting your input and building our community along the way will be an important part of our process. We have a small but mighty art team consisting of Chris, our Sr. 3D Character Artist, Alex, our UI/UX Designer, (joining soon) Nathan, our Jr. Technical Artist, and myself.
Our first milestone goal for LiveTale is the Character Creator, we want to build the most robust character creator on the market so that you can make characters that encompass everything, and be true to yourself, including gender presentation. Chris is keeping a great artist blog for this area too!
Right now we are finding our style, and pushing our shape language. We don’t want to force any specific body type, or trope, onto a specific species set so the bodies and faces will be blend-able between many of the species to create hybrids for any number of unique characters.
Here are some images showing our creative process, I’ve adjusted the body type that we will sculpt in connection to the female orc. In the end, it won’t be exclusive to the Orc species and you will be able to make less buff orc characters but it's easier to prepare the different body types with specific species heads and make cohesive character designs.
There is more work being done on the Orc’s heads as well, to push the shapes and forms away from human structures.
In the final image, I’ve sculpted over top of Chris’s initial feminine Elf species head to see how far we can push the proportions away from pretty typically elven features. I want to push them farther away from feeling human so when you are creating a character and want it to be half elf half human there will be more distinct features that are noticeable to give your character an otherworldly feeling.
